Fortunately, St. James Village is less than two hours away from the top ski resorts in Tahoe. This even counts the time it will take you to put on chains! A quick trip up Mt. Rose Highway will take you to snow paradise. Here are a few of our favorite resorts in Tahoe.

Mt. Rose Ski Resort

This ski resort is right up the road from St. James Village and is a favorite among people local to Reno and Tahoe. It features 1,200 acres of skiing and snowboarding delight at a top elevation of 9,700 feet. The Flumes are a Mt. Rose favorite for intermediate to advanced skiers. But beginner skiers will also find plenty to do. Mt. Rose has 8 lifts and more than 60 trails to explore. The ski resort features a vertical drop of 1,800 feet. Diamond Peak

This ski resort has amazing views of Lake Tahoe. This ski season is Diamond Peaks 50th and they are celebrating with a variety of learn to ski and ride classes and special events. The resort is smaller, half the size of Mt. Rose, but has a terrain park for snowboarders, seven lifts, 30 trails, and a balanced set of slopes. 18% are for beginners. 36% are for intermediates. 46% are for advanced skill sets. The summit is at 8,540 feet and the vertical drop is 1,840 feet. It’s certainly not the smallest of the ski resorts in Tahoe. But, they pack a lot of excitement into a smaller space than the mega resorts. www.diamondpeak.com

Homewood

Homewood Ski Resort offers skiing from the peak all the way down to the shoreline of Lake Tahoe. This resort is almost twice the size of Mt. Rose and packs a wallop when it comes to experience. Not only is Homewood beautiful, it boasts 8 lifts, 64 trails, a terrain park, and snow tubing. The summit sits at 8,740 feet with an awe-inspiring drop of 2,510 feet. Half of the runs are intermediate, with 35% advanced and 15% for beginners. So there is something for everyone at Homewood this ski season. www.skihomewood.com
